Practice questions

Meaning and response

Traffic lights control conflicting movements. Red means stop. An amber disc or arrow requires a stop unless you are already too close to stop safely. Green permits the allowed movement only when safe; yield where required.

Stop behind the stop line and wait for a permitted green indication. If you are already too close to stop safely when the amber arrow appears, you may proceed with caution. Do not accelerate to get through.

The flashing red left arrow and flashing amber disc in the older learner manual are historical indications. They were required to cease being displayed after 31 December 2010. Do not learn them as current South African instructions.
